What They Are Looking For

  1. Innovative Solutions: Projects should develop Extended Reality (XR) based therapeutic solutions for mental health.
  1. Scalability: The solution must have the potential to be trialled and adopted at scale within the UK’s mental health ecosystem.
  1. Target Audience: Must focus on positive mental health outcomes for young adults (13+) or older adults.
  1. Feasibility Studies: Projects should complete feasibility studies within 3 to 6 months to show applicability and benefits.

Funding and Project Size

  • Duration and Costs: The total eligible project costs must fall between £50,000 and £100,000. Projects should complete feasibility studies within a 3 to 6 months cycle.

Key Criteria

  • Scope: Must specifically explore how digital therapeutic content through XR can provide positive mental health outcomes.
  • Trial Requirements: Must be suitable for trials following R&D feasibility studies.
  • Strand Alignment: Must apply to the correct strand as transferring the application is not possible.

Research Categories

  • Types of Research: Only feasibility studies will be funded in this strand.


  • Projects in early-stage research and those unsuitable for potential trials following R&D studies of up to 6 months are not eligible.
  • Projects dependent on export performance or domestic inputs usage will not be funded.
