EIT Urban Mobility – Strategic Innovation Open Call

The Strategic Innovation Open Call, launched by EIT Urban Mobility on 19 June 2025, invites innovators across Europe to submit ambitious, market-critical proposals that address urgent urban mobility challenges. This multi-year initiative (2026–2028) aims to accelerate the deployment of solutions with a clear path to commercialization, scaling potential, and real-world impact.

Proposals must be submitted by 17:00 CET on the corresponding cut-off date. Following submission, evaluations and panel interviews are staged:

  • Eligibility checks: approximately 1 week post-cut-off.
  • Expert evaluation & panel hearings: within 8 weeks post-cut-off.
  • Awards communicated approximately 2 weeks post-panel hearing.

 

Eligibility

  • The call is multi-beneficiary, requiring a minimum of two independent legal entities from different EU Member States or associated third countries.
  • Eligible applicants include companies (SMEs and others), research organizations, public bodies, governments, and cities. Collaborations must involve the EIT Knowledge Triangle—business, research, education—plus city authorities.

 

Scope

The call targets solutions in five focus areas where Europe can drive innovation and create industrial and societal impact:

  1. Urban logistics
  2. Public transport
  3. Mobility data management
  4. Electrification & alternative fuels
  5. Health and mobility

Projects should be market-critical, with a defined problem to solve, scalable and with a clear path to market.

Funding

  • Total budget: €60 million for the 2026–2028 period.
  • Indicative budget for the first cut-off: €9 million.
  • Per-project funding: Up to €2 million of EIT support.
  • Funding rates: Up to 65% of eligible costs covered by EIT. Minimum 35% co-funding required overall.

 

Application Process

  1. Join Info Webinars (1–3 July 2025) to learn about scope, submission steps, financials, and IP strategy.
  2. Prepare your proposal and submit it via the EIT Urban Mobility NetSuite platform by the applicable cut-off.
  3. Stage 1: Expert evaluation of your proposal’s merit.
  4. Stage 2: Panel hearing for shortlisted consortia. Success is determined by the Selection Committee.
