Overview of the programme and its objectives
Zero Emission Flight Demonstrator Round 1 supports the development of zero emission capable flight in the UK. The competition is funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) and aims to accelerate progress towards commercial zero emission aviation.
The programme supports innovation across aircraft operations, infrastructure and regulatory readiness, helping pave the way for future passenger and freight services operating on a like-for-like basis with current air services.
UK registered organisations can apply for a share of a minimum of £8 million, subject to a sufficient number of high quality applications being received. Funding is provided as a grant.

Who can apply
To lead a collaborative project, your organisation must be a UK registered business of any size.
Academic institutions cannot lead or work alone.
Collaborating organisations must be UK registered and may include: Businesses of any size/ Academic institutions/ Charities/ Not for profit organisations/ Public sector organisations/ Research and technology organisations (RTOs)
To be eligible, the lead and at least one other organisation must apply for funding and no single partner may account for more than 70% of the total eligible costs.
All funded project work must be carried out in the UK, and applicants must intend to exploit the results from or in the UK.
Funding and support available
Feasibility studies can have total project costs of up to £250,000. Industrial research projects can have total project costs of up to £5 million, with a maximum grant of £3 million per enterprise
