The UK aims to lead in sustainable manufacturing, and Innovate UK is backing this ambition with a new competition for short feasibility projects. With a pool of £1.1 million available, the call supports innovations that make UK materials and manufacturing more net zero, resource-efficient, resilient, and technologically advanced.

 

Scope

Your project must focus on one of the following:

  • Resource-efficient and sustainable materials and manufacturing
  • Seaweed processing innovation, delivering significant improvements in yield, efficiency, or value per tonne of UK-harvested or cultivated seaweed

 

Funding and Project Size

  • Project costs: £10,000 to £25,000
  • Duration: 1–2 months
  • Start: 1 February 2026
  • End: 31 March 2026
  • Total competition budget: £1.1 million

 

Eligibility

  • Lead organisation must be a UK-registered business of any size
  • Subcontractors permitted (up to 50% of costs)
  • Project must be delivered in the UK with results exploited from or in the UK
  • Funding will be awarded under Minimal Financial Assistance rules (up to £315,000 over three years)

Key Dates

  • Competition opens: 16 September 2025
  • Competition closes: 5 November 2025 at 11am UK time
  • Projects start: 1 February 2026
  • Projects end: 31 March 2026
