Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is offering up to £25 million in funding through the Smart Grant competition. This funding opportunity aims to support innovative, groundbreaking projects across various sectors that will drive the UK's future economy.

Aim of the Competition

This competition targets:

  1. Development of bold, innovative solutions, technologies, or strategies that significantly enhance productivity, sustainability, and resilience across industries.
  2. Support for experimental development projects that are ready to disrupt the market.

Proposal Guidelines

Your proposal should demonstrate how your project meets the grant eligibility criteria, with a focus on the intended UK-based impact. A key requirement is that at least one SME is either leading or collaborating on the project. Your project must:

  1. Meet the grant funding eligibility criteria.
  2. Carry out all of its project work in the UK and intend to exploit the results from or in the UK.

What Successful SMEs Receive

Successful UK registered SMEs will receive:

  1. Grant funding from Innovate UK.
  2. The opportunity to work with a collaborative team or independently, based on the project's duration and cost.

Competition Entry

By applying for this competition, you're participating in a competitive process. The competition closes at 11am UK time on the deadline date.

Project Aspects

Your project should target significant challenges or opportunities in your industry sector, significantly enhancing productivity, sustainability, environmental impact, and progression towards net-zero emissions.

Portfolio Approach and Themes

The funders aim to support a variety of projects across markets, balancing the portfolio based on additionality and risk. They show preference to applications and investments that demonstrate greater additionality and reduced risk, alongside those with a higher ratio of investment to grant.

Exclusions

Please note, this competition will not fund projects involving any Russian or Belarusian entity or goods/services from these sources.
