Innovate UK's Innovation Loans programme provides flexible finance to help ambitious UK SMEs accelerate the commercialisation of highly innovative products, services, and business models. Unlike traditional grant funding, Innovation Loans are designed for businesses with late-stage research and development projects that have a clear route to market, strong commercial potential, and the ability to generate significant economic and societal impact.
The programme follows a two-stage application process. Businesses must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and, if successful, will be invited to submit a full loan application for assessment.

Why This Programme Matters
Many innovative businesses reach a stage where traditional grant funding is no longer suitable, yet commercial investment remains difficult to secure due to technology risk. Innovation Loans help bridge this funding gap by providing patient finance that enables businesses to complete development, validate their technology, and prepare for commercial launch.
By supporting innovations with strong market potential, the programme helps UK SMEs accelerate growth, attract private investment, create high-value jobs, and strengthen the UK's innovation economy.
