The UK and Netherlands have joined forces to launch a pilot competition aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of quantum technologies through joint research, development, and demonstration projects.

Competition Overview

  • Launch date: 15 September 2025
  • Deadline for submissions: 28 October 2025 (11:00am UK time)
  • UK Budget: UK partners grant funding request can be between £150,000 and £300,000 per project
  • Dutch Budget: Equivalent support available from RVO

This pilot encourages bilateral consortia to co-develop innovations and access shared testbeds, with a view to testing, scaling, and validating solutions in real-world environments.

 

Eligibility

Projects must:

  • have a grant funding request of between £150,000 and £300,000 allocated to UK organisations
  • have a grant funding request of no more than €300,000 allocated to eligible Netherlands based organisations
  • Access a testbed (development platforms) hosted at a UK or Netherlands National Lab, RTO or University to test, benchmark or develop your quantum technology solution or application
  • start by 1 February 2026 and end by 29 February 2028
  • last between 18 and 24 months

Scope

The call focuses on quantum technology applications in one of the following three themes:

  1. Software services or hardware solutions to advance commercial deployment of entanglement based quantum networking.
  2. Quantum computing algorithms, software applications, and services development.
  3. Adoption of quantum sensing for commercial applications in areas such as biosensing, public infrastructure and PNT.

Projects should demonstrate clear market relevance, scalability, and potential for bilateral economic impact.

Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted to Innovate UK (for UK partners) and RVO (for Dutch partners).
  • Both agencies will run parallel assessment processes, with joint decisions taken on funding awards.

  • 15 September 2025- Competition opens
  • 22 September 2025- Online briefing event
  • 28 October 2025 11:00am- Competition closes
  • 28 November 2025- Applicants notified
  • 1 December 2025- Successful applicant briefing
  • 1 February 2026- Project start
  • Awards expected in early 2026
