Trials4Health 2026 invites transnational consortia to submit proposals for randomised, interventional Phase III clinical studies addressing some of Europe’s most pressing chronic health conditions: cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders and autoimmune diseases.

The programme supports comparative-effectiveness and drug repurposing trials, designed to generate evidence that directly informs healthcare practice and public policy. Studies must be investigator-initiated and free from commercial purpose.

Aims of the Call

The call aims to:

  • Support pragmatic comparative-effectiveness and drug repurposing Phase III trials
  • Encourage multi-country collaboration between clinical and public health research teams
  • Promote responsible research and innovation by integrating ethical, societal, equity and environmental considerations
  • Generate evidence that improves care pathways, patient outcomes and public health strategies across Europe

Scope and Trial Design

Proposals may focus on:

  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Autoimmune diseases, including immune-mediated inflammatory diseases
  • Metabolic disorders

Out of Scope

  • Studies with direct commercial purpose
  • Cancer-focused trials
  • Observational or cohort studies
  • Basic biomedical research and animal studies
  • Development of new medical interventions
  • Phase I or Phase II studies
  • Trials involving drugs without European marketing authorisation or medical devices without CE marking (except well-established off-label use)

Project Requirements

  • Duration: 48 months
  • Strong justification for trial design, population, statistical power and sample size
  • Clear strategies for recruitment, retention and assessment
  • Demonstration of patient involvement and user engagement
  • Ethical compliance following EU and national requirements
  • Plans addressing gender balance and diversity in recruitment

Consortium Requirements

  • Minimum of three partners from participating countries
  • Complementary expertise across clinical research, methodology, data management and patient engagement
  • No double funding across ERA4Health calls
  • Compliance with national funding rules

Key Dates

  • Pre-announcement: 13 October 2025
  • Call opening: 6 November 2025
  • Pre-proposal deadline: 27 January 2026
  • Full proposal deadline (invited applicants): 17 June 2026
  • Rebuttal period: 24 August to 4 September 2026
  • Funding decisions: End of October 2026
  • Project start: January to May 2027
