IHI Call 12: Funding for Integrated Healthcare Research and Innovation

Opens:
15.01.2026
Closes:
21.04.2026
Sectors:
Health & Life Sciences
Project Size:
€163.1 million

IHI Call 12 is a major funding opportunity under the Innovative Health Initiative, supporting ambitious, collaborative research and innovation projects that aim to improve healthcare systems, outcomes, and patient experience across Europe. The call is single-stage and applicant-driven, allowing consortia to shape proposals that directly align with IHI’s long-term strategic priorities.

With a maximum financial contribution of €163.1 million, Call 12 is designed to accelerate innovation that delivers real-world impact through strong collaboration between industry, research organisations, healthcare providers, and other system stakeholders.

Call Scope and Strategic Focus

The call is aligned with the IHI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda and is structured around five topics, each corresponding to one of the IHI Specific Objectives:

  • Topic 1 (SO1): Boosting innovation for a better understanding of the determinants of health
  • Topic 2 (SO2): Boosting innovation through better integration of fragmented health research and innovation efforts
  • Topic 3 (SO3): Boosting innovation for people-centred integrated healthcare solutions
  • Topic 4 (SO4): Boosting innovation through exploitation of digitalisation and data exchange in healthcare
  • Topic 5 (SO5): Boosting innovation for better assessment of the added value of innovative integrated healthcare solutions

Projects are expected to demonstrate clear innovation, strong collaboration, and a credible pathway to adoption and impact within healthcare systems.

Eligibility and UK Participation

Eligibility for funding under IHI Call 12 depends on both the topic selected and the budget year from which funding is drawn.

UK legal entities are:

  • Eligible to receive funding under Topics 1, 2, 3, and 5
  • Not eligible to receive funding under Topic 4, which draws on earlier budget years

UK organisations may still participate in Topic 4 projects as associated partners, contributing at their own cost. Legal entities that are not eligible for funding cannot act as project coordinators.

Understanding these distinctions early is critical when shaping consortia and selecting the most appropriate topic.

Funding Model and Contribution Requirements

  • Maximum IHI JU contribution: €163.1 million
  • Action type: Research and Innovation Actions (RIA)
  • Industry and contributing partner share: At least 45% of the total project budget must be covered by partner contributions

This funding structure places a strong emphasis on balanced consortia, early financial planning, and clear roles for industry and other contributing partners.

Key Dates

  • Call launch: 15 January 2026
  • Full proposal submission deadline: 21 April 2026 at 17:00 (Brussels time)

Proposals must be submitted via the Funding and Tenders Portal. All applicants are strongly advised to review the call text, guide for applicants, and supporting documents in full before submission.
