Call Details:

Timing:

  • Outcome of Evaluation: 5 months after the deadline.
  • Grant Agreement Signing: 3 months after evaluation if successful.

Consortium Requirements:

  • Single beneficiary from a Member State (MS) or an Associated Country (AC), except for mid-caps and larger companies which do not qualify as SMEs.
  • Small consortium of two independent partners from two different     MS or ACs.
  • Consortium of three or more partners, including at least one partner from an MS and at least two independent partners from different MS     or AC.

Budget per Project: Up to €4 million

Project Duration: 3 to 4 years

Funding Type: Lump sum

Threshold and Weight:

  • Excellence: 4/5 (60% weight)
  • Impact: 3.5/5 (20% weight)
  • Implementation: 3/5 (20% weight)

Success Rate: 11.7% (2023)

Focus Areas:

  1. Solar-to-X Devices: Decentralised production of renewable fuels, chemicals, and materials for climate change mitigation.
  2. Cement and Concrete as Carbon Sinks: Innovative approaches to reduce carbon footprints.
  3. Nature-Inspired Alternatives for Food Packaging and Films for Agriculture: Sustainable materials to support circular economy.
  4. Nanoelectronics for Energy-Efficient Smart Edge Devices: Advanced electronics to improve energy efficiency.
  5. Sustainability and Resilience of EU Space Infrastructure: Enhancing the robustness of space systems.

Expected Outcomes:

  • High-ranking scientific publications in open-access journals.
  • Intellectual property protection through patent applications.
  • Specific outcomes tailored to each challenge, such as environmentally safe materials for food packaging.

Assessment Criteria:

  • Additional evaluation of regulation, certification, and standardisation.
  • Empowerment of early-career researchers, SMEs, and start-ups.
  • Encouragement of gender balance among work package leaders.

Budget and Proposal Details:

  • Total Budget: €120 million (€24     million per challenge).
  • Lump Sum Model: Streamlined funding process, focusing on technical content over financial administration.
