Contracts for Innovation: Quantum Technologies for Transport – Phase 1

Opens:
15.09.2025
Closes:
15.10.2025
Sectors:
Automotive & Transport
Quantum Technologies
Project Size:
up to £40,000 (incl. VAT)

Quantum technologies have the potential to transform the way we move people and goods. To accelerate adoption, Innovate UK and EPSRC are investing up to £1.5 million (incl. VAT) in Phase 1 feasibility projects under their Contracts for Innovation programme.

This first phase is designed to:

  • Develop use cases for applying quantum sensing in transport.
  • Build outline business cases that demonstrate commercial potential and scalability.

Key Dates

  • Opens: 15 September 2025
  • Closes: 15 October 2025 (11:00am UK time)
  • Projects start: 1 January 2026
  • Projects end: 31 March 2026

Each project can receive up to £40,000 (incl. VAT) to deliver over a three-month period.

Eligibility

  • Open to organisations of any size.
  • You can work alone or subcontract specialists.
  • The majority of work and deliverables must be carried out in the UK.

Scope

Projects must explore second generation quantum technologies—those based on superposition or entanglement—and their application in transport. Focus areas include:

  • Infrastructure monitoring, inspection, and fault prediction.
  • Earthworks and construction preparation.
  • Asset testing and structural health monitoring.
  • Platform health and maintenance in maritime, aviation, road, and rail.

Why This Matters

Quantum sensing could make transport safer, more efficient, and more resilient. From predicting faults before they happen to monitoring the integrity of bridges, tunnels, and tracks, these projects will help unlock the next stage of quantum innovation in the UK.

How Inventya Can Help

At Inventya, we specialise in helping organisations position their innovations for success in highly competitive calls. For this programme, we can:

  • Shape your proposal to clearly address transport challenges with quantum sensing solutions.
  • Develop compelling business cases that highlight commercial pathways.
  • Support compliance with Innovate UK’s requirements.
  • Plan for future growth, setting you up for larger-scale funding opportunities beyond Phase 1.

With our guidance, your project can stand out and lay the foundation for quantum’s role in tomorrow’s transport systems.
