Connected and Automated Mobility Pathfinder Competitions

Opens:
20.10.2025
Closes:
17.12.2025
Sectors:
Automotive & Transport
Project Size:
Between £2 and £4 million

Innovate UK has launched two new competitions to accelerate the real-world deployment of connected and automated mobility (CAM) services. The CAM Pathfinder Programme aims to transform research and early-stage development into sustainable, commercial mobility solutions.

1. CAM Pathfinder Enable
Overview
The Enable competition will fund large-scale trials of CAM services across the UK. These projects will test how CAM technology operates in real environments and how new service models can be safely, sustainably, and commercially deployed. The focus is on advancing high-value market segments and validating operational frameworks that can scale nationally.

Funding
Up to 15 million pounds of funding is available, with Innovate UK expecting to support up to six projects. Each project must request between 2 million and 4 million pounds in eligible costs.

Eligibility
Projects must be collaborative. The lead applicant must be a UK-registered business, a local authority, or a transport authority. All project work must take place in the UK.

Scope
Projects should demonstrate mature CAM technology in live or controlled trials. The emphasis is not on developing new technologies but on delivering operational services that address market demand, user needs, and commercial feasibility.

Key Dates

  • Opens: Monday 20 October 2025
  • Closes: 11:00 am UK time, Wednesday 17 December 2025

Application Guidance
Applications must be submitted through the Innovation Funding Service. Consortia are advised to prepare detailed work plans, budgets, and risk assessments in line with the eligibility and evaluation criteria.

2. CAM Pathfinder Demonstrate
Overview
The Demonstrate competition supports research and development projects that are close to market and focused on proving CAM technologies and services in real-world conditions. It aims to help businesses and their partners validate market readiness, engage users, and refine business models ahead of full-scale commercial launch.

Funding
A total of 20 million pounds is available to fund up to 15 projects. Each project must request between 500,000 pounds and 2 million pounds in eligible costs.

Eligibility
This competition is open to single applicants and collaborations. To lead a project or apply alone, the lead organisation must be a UK-registered business. All project work must be carried out in the UK.

Scope
Projects should demonstrate technologies and services at prototype or operational readiness levels. Proposals must show clear market demand, technical validation, and the potential for early commercialisation. Activities should strengthen the UK CAM supply chain and demonstrate user confidence in CAM-enabled mobility.

Key Dates

  • Opens: Monday 20 October 2025
  • Closes: 11:00 am UK time, Wednesday 17 December 2025

Application Guidance
Applicants must use the Innovation Funding Service for submission. The competition guidance provides details on assessment criteria, subsidy control, and supporting documentation. Early preparation is recommended to ensure compliance.

Why These Competitions Matter
The CAM Pathfinder Enable and Demonstrate competitions mark a significant milestone in the UK’s strategy to lead in connected and automated mobility. They are designed to bridge the gap between R&D and commercial operation, helping businesses test, validate, and launch technologies that can transform transport networks, logistics, and passenger mobility. These calls focus on collaboration, operational trials, and near-term commercial delivery. They present a strong opportunity for UK organisations to establish themselves at the forefront of the CAM industry.
