Overview of the Programme and Its Objectives

Innovate UK is investing up to £5 million in feasibility studies that explore new approaches to improving supply chain resilience and resource efficiency in UK manufacturing.

The competition supports early-stage projects that address shared, cross-cutting challenges faced by the UK’s high growth sectors and advanced manufacturing frontier industries. The aim is to help organisations test new ideas, assess viability and build the foundations for future innovation that strengthens UK supply chains.

Sectors and Industries in Scope

Projects must align with at least two of the Government’s high growth sectors, including advanced manufacturing, clean energy industries, creative industries, defence, digital and technologies, and life sciences.

Alternatively, projects may align with at least two advanced manufacturing frontier industries, including automotive, batteries and energy storage, aerospace, advanced materials such as composites, metals, polymers, ceramics, glass and smart materials, agri-tech manufacturing and processing technologies for the agri-food value chain, or space.

 

Who Can Apply

To work alone, the lead organisation must be a UK registered business of any size. Research and technology organisations (RTOs) cannot apply alone.

To lead a collaborative project, the lead organisation must be a UK registered business of any size or a UK registered RTO. The consortium must include at least one UK registered business claiming grant funding.

Project partners may include UK registered Businesses of any size/ Academic institutions/ Charities/ Not-for-profit organisations/ Public sector organisations/ Research and technology organisations (RTOs).

Academic institutions cannot lead projects or apply alone.

Funding and Support Available

  • Funding type: Grant
  • Project funding request: £50,000 to £100,000
  • Project duration: Up to 9 months

All funded project work must be carried out in the UK, and organisations must intend to exploit project results from or in the UK.

  • Competition opens: Monday 2 February 2026
  • Competition closes: Wednesday 11 March 2026 at 11:00am
